Cheryl's email

"Being put to rest" and "letting her go" are just self-soothing and self-diluting pretentious nice ways of saying "kill her". Cheryl sent me this email just moments before Kuma suffered the pain of Cheryl's stupid knee jerk reaction. Cutting off Kuma abruptly sent Kuma into painful convulsions for 30 minutes before they were able to kill her.

Cheryl sent me this email less than one hour before Kuma was killed.

I was told that Kuma had been put to rest and paid the bill up to the point of cremation.

I have been patient, but the Doctor told me this morning that ‘this is not right for her’, that she is well beyond having any hope of recovering to a life worth living. I also thought that she was going to be let go last night and was surprised by your email.

I have nothing more to say -

First of all, the Vet should not have called Cheryl and should not have gone beyond her integrity as a vet to encite Cheryl with her opinions. The vet knew nothing about Kuma and went against the plans of the original vet who examined Kuma and had a plan to help her recover to be better than before.

Also, this vet had no medical data to back up her own opinions. The medical records all showed that Kuma's heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and all vitals were normal. Kuma was just heavily sedated and needed time to wake up.

Here are the facts:

  •   The admitting vet thoroughly examined Kuma and was optimistic for her recovery. She said that it will take about 3 to 4 days but Kuma should recover and with new medication should be better than before.
  •   Just 6 hours later the next vet on duty who knew nothing about Kuma called Cheryl and strongly urged her to kill Kuma.
  •   The cause of Kuma's continuous seizures was a reaction to the drug Simplisef, an antibiotic that I started giving her 3 days earlier. This would have cleared by the third day. The vets didn't catch this.
  •   I talked with Cheryl the night before this email and cautioned her to not listen to the other vets because they didn't know what was going on with Kuma. They just saw an old dog unconscious.
  •   Cheryl didn't call me to talk or email me, instead she reacted angrily without thinking of the consequences to Kuma. She cut Kuma off everything completely and told them to kill her.
  •   Cheryl's name was on file as Kuma's owner from a previous visit 13 years ago. They asked if I wanted to change it to my name. I didn't out of respect and because of this they didn't listen to me only to Cheryl who hadn't seen or inquired about Kuma for 4 years.
  •   Kuma was ordered to be killed just short of 2 days in the hospital. She was not given the 3 to 4 days to wake up from the sedative induced coma.
  •   I asked Kuma to wake up early. She did and then went back into continuous seizures because Cheryl abruptly cut off her anti-seizure medication.

Cheryl saying "I have nothing more to say" is just arrogance. Cheryl was shocked that Kuma was still alive and she wanted Kuma killed and had nothing more to say. Kuma did not deserve this treatment from her mother. Kuma was a good girl and she should be alive today.
