The Emergency was an Opportunity to Fix Kuma

Summary: Kuma most likely had an ear infection which spread to the brain and too deep anasthesia made things worse. A CT scan or MRI would have identified the brain abscess and/or lesion and it may have been fixed by adding an antibiotic to her IV. Kuma could have come out of the hospital fixed better than ever and lived much longer and happier.

When I took Kuma to the Emergency Animal Hospital I felt she was in bad shape and may not come out of it. But, I wa tired and not thinking straight. I refused the IV and the blood test and the MRI that they wanted to do because it all cost too much. After talking to Cheryl I agreed to put her on the water IV.

If I had it to do over again this is what I would have done:

I would have allowed them to take a blood test and see what they were dealing with and I would have allowed the brain scan or MRI to see what the problem was in Kuma's brain. By not doing these things to save money, the vets not only were proceeding blind, but they also got a message from me that it was not worth spending the money to save Kuma.

But Kuma could have been saved and it may have been easy.

After all my research now and reviewing Kuma's symptoms starting back in March of this year, it is almost certain that Kuma had an infection in her brain caused most likely by an ear infection that spead to her middle and inner ear or possibly a dental infection that spread into her brain. I will go into more detail later. The infection caused a brain abscess which caused a displacement and intercranial pressure which probably gave her burning feelings on the right side of her face and headaches. She liked putting her face on an ice pack.

The treatment with more than 90% success rate is to add antibiotics to her IV and clear up her brain bacteria. It could have been that simple. Kuma could have stayed in an induced coma just a bit longer and when she woke up would have been cured of her face pain and seizures. This could have fixed everything that was starting to get so bad for her for the past 7 months. Kuma could have come home and ran up and down in the gym happy again. It really could have been that simple.

The emergency trip to the hospital should have been a blessing in disguise. It was an opportunity to identify and fix her pains and seizure problems. Instead of identifying the problem and fixing it, it was decided that Kuma was too old and it was not worth spending money to let her live longer.

This is the reality that I have to deal with. Kuma should be here now, alive and happy. She should not have been killed.
